Before the industrial era, textiles (anything from clothes to carpets to sails) were handmade. The skill of weaving was universal, and every culture had its myth or legend associated with the craft. The Andean people are no different, and for the Inca weaving was sacred. In their mythology, Mama Ocllo, mother and creator of all things, taught women to spin and weave.
